Karen Harris
Vice President, Business Development
Karen Harris is the Vice President of Strategy & Business Development for BGS, focused on the strategy and critical decisions needed for continued and sustained growth for BGS. She provides leadership for all BGS business development and marketing activities, including creating revenue opportunities, assessing marketing opportunities and establishing a business opportunity pipeline, gathering intelligence on customers and competitors, developing marketing materials, and designing business models.
She is responsible for the entire business development lifecycle, including opportunity identification, capture management, and technical solutions design. She leads the development and execution of capture plans, solutions designs, and final proposal submissions. Harris also leads marketing campaigns to promote BGS services, as well as to communicate BGS values, culture, and operating philosophy to potential clients, partners, and employees.
Harris is a performance-oriented professional with 25 years of experience in business development, marketing, strategic planning, sales, and business administration in various industries. She has 10 years of experience serving as Chief Executive Officer for a small woman-owned business providing technical services within the government sector. Her experience includes supporting clients in securing and maintaining work with federal agencies, such as the United States Departments of Energy, Defense, Transportation, Agriculture; as well as with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Tennessee Valley Authority, among others.
Harris is well-versed in the government procurement process and has led numerous large government proposal efforts (>$100M). She has extensive experience providing support on government proposals, including: developing and implementing capture plans; managing the proposal process; developing/structuring teaming arrangements; developing win strategies and technical content; and participating/leading review teams.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
