Community & Culture

BGS Company Culture

When people ask me what makes BGS special, I tell them that it’s our people. I tell them that we have a dedicated group of professionals that are passionate about their work and are passionate about making a difference for each client. It is the talent, commitment, and dedication of our people that allows BGS to do the things we do, and that will carry us successfully into the future.

From the start, we aimed to grow and succeed by providing the best performance in support of missions of national importance. I believe that it is the best talent that delivers the best performance, so we have continually worked to attract and retain the best talent. We know that the best people have their choice of employers and are not only motivated by salary, but by a work-life balance that allows them to achieve both professional and family goals, and by a culture that offers challenge, opportunity, appreciation, respect, and a sense of camaraderie and belonging.

Our culture reflects our values, principles and focus on quality, integrity, client satisfaction, safety, investing in our people, our capabilities, and our communities, with the understanding that our diversity is our strength. Our core values include the statement, “We work collaboratively, value diversity, recognize contributions, remain open to new ideas, and treat each individual with respect and dignity.” We try to put those words into practice every day and promote employee satisfaction by valuing diversity of thought and people, providing career growth opportunities through exciting client engagements, and by maintaining an open and welcoming working environment.

Our team composition is diverse and ranges from recent graduates to seasoned professionals from many different backgrounds. Our leaders at all levels know that they must earn respect and loyalty by being trustworthy and by helping each person feel valued, motivated, and fulfilled. We promote open two-way communication, share information, value questions and input, involve team members in decisions, treat individuals with respect and provide opportunities for professional development and advancement. We seek to understand and act on the things that motivate, excite, nurture, and reward each individual. We believe these behaviors make BGS a great place to work and help BGS earn loyalty and referrals as our team members recommend us to other talented people.

The COVID-19 pandemic presented businesses with a new set of challenges. At BGS, we made it a point to frequently reach out to our staff since almost everybody was working remotely. Managers checked in on each person to see how they were doing both professionally and personally. Unfortunately, several employees lost loved ones during the pandemic and we supported these individuals as best we could by providing additional time off with pay and expanding the definition of “close relatives” to meet their needs. We worked to get COVID benefits to those who could not work. We kept employees engaged by replacing “in-person” gatherings and celebrations with employee contests, with prizes for “best home office” and “best face mask.” BGS was proud of how engaged our employees were in their communities, especially during the pandemic. We asked how we could support them and made the decision to provide corporate donations to some of the charities and community groups you identified. We want you to feel that working with BGS is more than just a job, we are a family, and we will continue to support each other and welcome new members as we grow.
